Pre-Inspection Checklist
Sellers, you can make a big difference in how the inspection of your home goes by following a few simple steps.
INTERIOR
- Replace all burned out light bulbs throughout the house
- Clear out closet floors
- Remove items from underneath sink cabinets
- Make sure your smoke detectors work
- Be sure you have a working carbon monoxide detector in the home
EXTERIOR
- Clean out gutters and downspouts
- Be sure sprinklers are turned off the day of inspection
- Unlock side gates and any locks that would prevent the inspector from gaining access to pool equipment and main electrical panels
- Leave automated pool control in a location where inspector can find it
- Clear any obstacles that may obstruct the view of the foundation
- Cut back any trees or shrubs that are touching the home or roof
BASEMENT/CRAWLSPACE
- Clear away any obstacle that may block the access to the crawlspace
- Clear out any debris that is in the crawlspace
- Clear any obstacles that may prevent inspector from getting to mechanical systems
- Remove any locks that might prevent inspector from gaining access to these areas
ATTIC
- Be sure attic access door is accessible
- Remove any debris in attic area
- Clear a path to HVAC or other mechanical equipment
- Check light bulb in attic is working
GARAGE
- Clear walls and floor as much as possible
- Be sure all garage doors are accessible
- Check that the garage door motor light bulb is working
